Cheung Sin Yee
(Translation and Interpretation-major)

Partner: Cosmos Books Ltd.

"I found my interpersonal skills have improved a lot. It was because I developed my interpretation skill when I tried to present the products to customers. Also, when I tried to answer the inquiries of the customers in a polite manner instantly I found myself became more confident in meeting people."

"This internship is an invaluable experience to me as it gives me an opportunity to apply the skills learnt in class to real-life situation, lets me acquire new knowledge and ideas in the process of working, and gives me a taste of what a real working environment is like."

Chin Kei Yu Irene
(Linguistics and Language Technology-major)

Partner: ProTrans Language Services Ltd.

"During the three months of summer 2014, I work as an intern in ProTrans Language Services Ltd., a private translation company specializing in financial translation from English to Chinese or vice versa. The experience was of great value and worthwhile as I had the chance to exercise my skills and knowledge into an actual workplace for the first time. It provided me with a chance to recognize my future career path and to address to my strengths and weaknesses. The internship experience also helped me to gain considerable computing knowledge and opened me up to an industry I have never imagined myself setting foot in."

Lai Shu Nga Rachel
(Linguistics and Language Technology-major)

Partner: Chinese YMAC of Hong Kong (College of Careers)

"I have gained a lot from this internship, including the working experience, a sense of being successful, a new try on editing a book and holding an event, and participating in a formal meeting. I hope to join the internship next time to taking part in different industries before the graduation of my bachelor programme."

Tong Po Kei Shirley
(Translation and Interpretation-major)

Partner: Jao Tsung-I Petite Ecole, The University of Hong Kong

"Looking back into these 10 weeks’ time of internship, I was sure that it was definitely a wise choice to leave aside my plan of learning Spanish and join the LT internship programme this summer. I always questioned my own artistic accomplishment and was afraid of getting involved in this field, but I am now confident with organizing exhibitions and publishing catalogues for them. Moreover, having more chances to get along with different people was what had made me more outgoing and happy. Although I seldom joined in the conversation between my colleagues and the artists, I actually learned a lot from them. On the other hand, being able to apply what I have learnt in the university into the tasks I encountered during internship made me content and even more interested in doing translation. This internship has certainly showed me the importance of gaining practical experience and given much help in strengthening my abilities before I really explored my very own career path. "

"Not only do I have a first and foremost taste of being engaged in a translation working environment, but also have an opportunity to learn the skills at work which I could never acquire from books or in my study. Moreover, thanks to the internship, I have made several friends at work which I think is a bonus to my internship experience!"
